Artist Spotlight | Joel Gauthier
Joel Gauthier was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in June 1955. Rousseau-inspired in his twenties, he took on vivid scenes of jungle animals, universally known. His style which has great depth, wide colour ranges are his trademark and his style is often copied. His jungle scenes have become a genre of their own and have long attracted the attention of serious collectors of Haitian art. His paintings are widely illustrated in publications about Haitian art.
Gauthier's paintings are part of a permanent exhibition at the Haitian Institute in Washington, D.C., and more recently were on exhibit at the Organization of American States, also in Washington.
